Thymosin Alpha-1 in Cancer Immune Care
The Thymosin Alpha-1 Immune Injection works best not as a one-off shot but as a steady course, usually about twice a week.
Thymosin Alpha-1 is not a shot you get once and are done with. It is a cancer immunotherapy that becomes meaningful when continued steadily, about twice a week. Managing immunity becomes especially important while going through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, and Thymosin Alpha-1 is the immunotherapy commonly used as a foundation during that process. Medical Director Lee Yoo-jin of Saeron Korean Medicine Hospital walks through how Thymosin Alpha-1 works, who it is for, the product types and how it is given.
Why Does NK Cell Activity Matter?
The immune cells that move around cancer cells and attack them are NK cells (natural killer cells). When NK cells are actively moving, we say NK cell activity is high.
The higher the activity, the better NK cells recognize the surface of cancer cells, and the better positioned they are to drive cancer cells toward death. In other words, raising NK cell activity works in the direction of helping cancer cell death while also strengthening immunity throughout the body.
What Kind of Drug Is Thymosin Alpha-1?
Thymosin Alpha-1 (thymosin α1) is an immune-regulating substance secreted by the thymus, the organ in charge of immunity in our body. It is also a prescription drug registered under classification number 429, as an other antineoplastic agent.
Thymosin Alpha-1 raises NK cell activity to help improve immune function, and increases the expression of MHC-1 so that immune cells can better recognize surface antigens on cancer cells. Based on these actions, it is given as an adjunct to cancer treatment that helps the process of destroying cancer cells. It is easiest to think of Thymosin Alpha-1 as assisting the NK cell activity described above from the sidelines.

An Immune Injection Given in the Abdomen: How It Is Administered
Thymosin Alpha-1 is an injectable and is usually given into the subcutaneous fat of the abdomen. Simply put, it is an immune injection given in the belly. The injection takes less than 5 minutes, making it a relatively simple form of immunotherapy.
Benefits and Effects of Thymosin Alpha-1
- Promotes the maturation of lymphocytes and strengthens T cell function, helping restore immune status.
- Used for chronic hepatitis B.
- Helps restore immune function in cancer patients.
- Helps ease side effects of chemotherapy such as vomiting and nausea.
In fact, many patients before or after surgery or during chemotherapy say their overall condition felt noticeably better after starting Thymosin Alpha-1. However, the changes people feel can differ from person to person.
Can You Receive It If You Are Not a Cancer Patient?
People whose immunity has dropped significantly, who catch colds often, whose fatigue has worsened, or who frequently suffer from various illnesses and inflammation may also be candidates. It helps to first take an NK cell activity test, and if the level comes out too low, to start Thymosin Alpha-1 immunotherapy about twice a week.

Product Types: Imported Original and Domestic Generics
There is not just one Thymosin Alpha-1 product. It is distributed under several names depending on whether it is the imported original or a domestic generic (copy) product.
The best known is Zadaxin, the imported original, and inpatients who are not feeling well or people who have received it before often ask for Zadaxin. In addition to Zadaxin, Saeron Korean Medicine Hospital carries several products, including Thyone, Thycare, Immune Alpha-One and Thyalpha.
Consistency Determines the Effect
Thymosin Alpha-1 gives more stable effects when continued over a longer period at least twice a week, rather than stopping after a single shot. If you are undergoing chemotherapy or are concerned about weakened immunity, we recommend receiving it consistently for at least 2 to 3 months.

- It is an injection given under the skin of the abdomen in under 5 minutes, and the key is receiving it consistently about twice a week.
- Not only people undergoing chemotherapy but also those with low NK cell activity results can consider immunotherapy after a consultation.
